This page is intended for informal discussion. Please feel free to use this page to contact me for anything related to my research area or expertises! This page uses the mediawiki text format, just like all other pages on this wiki. Order and structure are not really that important on this page, but please try to keep your additions constructive and readable. It is however recommended to start a new heading for every new topic, and to mark your additions with your signature (there is a button for that just on top of the editing area).

This page will be moderated from time to time, and topics of general interest may be moved to any of the relevant articles.

Subpages

Hi,

Could you please enable subpages, which is a canonical MediaWiki concept, and documented here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgNamespacesWithSubpages#Enabling_for_a_namespace (So you basically need to add to LocalSettings.php:

# Enable subpages in the main namespace
$wgNamespacesWithSubpages[NS_MAIN] = true;

).

This will create nice backlinks to parent pages, for subpages such as: SweStore/National_Storage/Mounting_via_WebDav

(And I think we really need the subpage concept, for pages like the one above, otherwise it will be very hard to have any sense of the logical structures of pages with some hiearchy ... and for SweStore National Storage for example, I expect that we'll have to add quite a lot off this kind of guides ... ) -- Samuel Lampa (UPPMAX) 16:20, 15 September 2011 (CEST)

Nope. We will not enable subpages.
We have had lengthy discussions on this subject, in particular regarding the use cases you mention and most recently at the AE meeting at LUNARC just now. There are many good reasons both for enabling them and against enabling them, and after careful consideration and testing we have chosen not to enable them. At the moment I am too pressed for time to delineate our rationale in coherent text (plus most of the affected people have heard all the arguments already) so I think this is best explained irl. Please feel free to call me or something if you still have questions.
