Safari and Chrome on uses the infrastructure present in the OS X operating system for certificate storage and retrieval, so in order to export a certificate you need to use the Keychain Access interface to manipulate and export certificates.

Launch Keychain Access, select the certificate to export. Cert export-keychain-1.png

In the context menu, select Export. Cert export-keychain-2.png

Enter a name for the certificate file and select a location for it. Ensure that the File Format is Personal Information Exchange (.p12). Cert export-keychain-3.png

Enter and remember a password to protect the file with, you'll need this to access it later.
